Weather warning issued as temperatures drop below the seasonal average

A yellow warning has been issued for the weekend. Heavy showers are expected in the north, while inland areas may see overnight temperatures fall by as much as eight degrees in a single night.

For growers the risk is not the rain but the cold after dark. The harvest is not finished in several areas and producers are starting before first light to avoid leaving crops standing.

A similar scheme was tried in another borough two years ago. The results of that trial were never published.

Where and what is expected

Set the technical argument aside and one question is left: who ends up paying for it.

The written answer we received says the process is ongoing. On timings, it says nothing at all.

What people are being asked to do

The first figures from the bodies involved do not match. Two different numbers went out on the same day, both through official channels.

The warning runs until Monday morning. Temperatures are expected back around the seasonal average by midweek, though the forecast is being revised daily.
